The amplifier that these captures are based on - the Sears Silvertone 1485 from 1966 is an amp that was offered in the Sears catalog for a very competetive price back in the day and it aimed at offering similar spec to the Fender Twin Reverb. Which is why many referred to it as the "Poor Man's Twin".
Despite its low-budget construction (the y indeed used particle board for the head shell and cabinet) and the incredibly undersized output transformers (yup, it features two of them, similar to the earliest 100w Marshalls) it delivers outstanding tone.
The 1485 is quite a bit rarer than its smaller brother 1484 and despite them sharing the same Output trasnformers, the 1485 soudns a lot more authoratativ thanks to its big Mains transformer that just delivers more juice to the whole circuit.
It has a beautiful slightly scooped clean tone, especially on the second channel and when cranked up it has a very distinctive, bright crunch and drive tone that lends itself perfectly for rock and alternative rock genres.
It is no surprise that these amps became the hallmark of the White Stripes tone in the hands of Jack white. The 1484 amp was used on their first two albums and the 1485 soon joined for live work.
It takes pedals and especially fuzzes really well and easily delivers those iconic Jack White tones.
The set features 30 AMP+CAB captures of the amp. It was captured with its Silvertone 2X12 CAB (converted to 2X10) with vintage Jensen speakers. The mics used were 2x Royer R121, a Beyerdynamic M160 and a Neumann U87. Please refer to the full list of included captures in the product photo section.
