MRSH SB100 1968 ToneX Essential
  • MRSH SB100 1968 ToneX Essential

This is it, this is THE tone of so many rock guitar records that it is futile to list them. One could consider the 68 Super Bass and Super Lead amps to be the ones that are most associated with the term "plexi" and are the archetypical Marshall sound that so many have in their mind.

It instantly became our favorite for crunch and rock riffs, but it also has really nice cleanish tones on the menu. It is the first Marshall i've tried that actually does sound great on the "everyhting on 10" setting (well, almost everything - presence and volume have to be kept to 9 max, otherwise it starts to cave in). So these amps have definitely contributed to that approach.

Tom Bukovac (arguable one of the best guitarists on the planet right now) conisders the 68 laydown transformer Super Bass to be the best of all Marshalls and quotes Eric Johnson agreeing on that. I think we won't argue with those guys .

This is the amp for Band of Gypsys era Hendrix, for most of the 70's Led Zeppelin live stuff, early ZZ-Top, AC/DC (Malcolm Young), Eric Johnson and countless others.

The set consists of 18 AMP+CAB Tone Models ranging from Clean to Lead and featuring various EQ settings. Please refer to the full list of captures unter the product pictures.

The capture levels are set for vintage single coils, for humbuckers and other stronger output pickups you need to increase the input gain accordingly, which can be anywhere between 4dB and 10dB depending on your guitar.
