THIS is the amp that struck gold for Marshall amplification. Because this is the amp that was loud enough for the biggest acts and biggest stars of the mid 60's that adopted this model first. Built by the request of Pete Townshend (initially in the shortly lived dual OT version) it quickly became the amp of choice by an impressive roster of the biggest names: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton (Cream), Jeff Beck (Yardbirds) and Pete Townshend (the Who) and by the likes of Malcolm Young (AC/DC) and Eric Johnson after the 60's.

After this sweeping victory Marshall 100w amps became synonymous with loud rock and roll music in UK and the USA and quickly became an icon of Rock music like no other piece of gear. And this is the model that started it all.

Tonally it is more open, balanced, harmonically rich and width a broader frequency response than the later plexi models that replaced it. It has some of the best clans and edge of breakup tones one could wish for.

Nicely balanced, detailed and complex with an authoritative punch that retains clarity even on the note attack of some of the higher gain ranges without getting mushy.

It has a fuller bandwidth, more girth, dynamic range and presence than the smaller JTM-45 models and will feel equally at home with some punchy blues runs as well as some classic rock riffs.

And with pedals this amp becomes a searing monster! In our view the captur with the Germanium Fuzz Face alone is worth the price of admission - you can play a whole gig with that alone when using your guitar's volume control.

The set features 48 DI captures of the amp and 4 IR's, including a vintage 1968 Marshall 1960A 4X12 with Celestion G12H25 Pulsonic coned speakers, which are considered to be THE "Early Hendrix speakers". The mics used were 2x Royer R121, a Beyerdynamic M160 and a Neumann U87. Please refer to the full list of included captures in the product photo section.
