We are extremely pleased to FINALLY! present you with... Major PITA... no, i mean Zilla...!
Let's take a step back - in our never ending pursuit of the holy grail Marshall tones, we had to find out how a plexi era Marshall Major 200 Lead spec amp sounds. We got one in a beautiful condition, but it was blowing fuses. Ended up visiting out pro tech for 7 times until it was FINALLY solved.
So for a time i thought it will be nicknamed Major PITA, as it indeed was.
But lo and behold, spending the first few minutes with it once it was performing as intended, it was clear that it is more than worthy of the nickname - "Zilla". Why Zilla, well because it is the biggest amp Marshall ever put out and that is how it sounds - like the biggest plexi you've heard.
It has a lead spec preamp, so that puts it into Super Lead territory, but its stouter and bigger power amp is capable of handling even more low-end content gracefully than the 100W heads, which allows you to dial in more balanced tones that are less honky than the typical Super Lead.
So in turn it can go from a Super Lead inspired tone to a broader more Super-Bass like tone just by adjusting the EQ (the mids control is particularly interactive here!)
It will do beautiful cleans, Edge of breakup tones, it will take pedals extremely well and it overdrives into one of the most musical overdrive tones attainable at any price range. No weak spots to be found here.
It will easily give a Strat those piano like qualities that people rave about and there is without a doubt a reason why among the biggest users of this amp are the following top Strat players: Ritchie Blackmore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Frusciante, Uli Jon, Roth. Other high profile users include Mick Ronson and Bill Connors.
The set features 30 full captures of the amp through the 1968 Marshall 1982B cab with G12H30 55Hz Pulsonic coned speakers. The mics used were 2x Royer R121, a Beyerdynamic M160 and a Neumann U87. Please refer to the full list of included captures in the product photo section.
