MES MKIIC+ 1984 ToneX Core DI
  • MES MKIIC+ 1984 ToneX Core DI

    DISCLAIMER!
Our DI capture sets come in the following variations:
    - Essential DI - For very simple one channel amps with just a tone control there will be only an Essential DI set.
    - Core DI - clean, edge, crunch, dimed, drive and lead gain levels with EQ settings close to the amps sweet spot - includes BRI, BAL, WRM settings. Includes close mic'd IR's. This is where to start, if you are not sure, if you want all the tones from a particular amp.
    - Expansion DI - clean, edge, crunch, dimed, drive and lead gain levels with EQ the more unusual settings (which often are spectacular sounding with particular playing styles, genres, guitars or pickups) - includes THN, FAT, SCP settings. Include's IR's with baked in room sound that are intended to be used with an external IR loader that allows long files - up to 2 seconds and that are meant to be mixed together with the close mic'd IR's from the Core DI set. The Expansion DI set is meant to be purchased as an addition to the Core DI set, not as a standalone.

The MES MKIICP has become a legendary amp within a line of amps that all sound outstanding. What is so special about the IICP? Besides that i has been the cornerstone of quite a few iconic recordings among which Master of Puppets by Metallica and the down-tuned fierce riffs of John Petrucci are the most quoted references, it indeed has some unique traits compared to its siblings.

It cuts beautifully through the mix, is extrmely dynamic and tight, while still being able to get a liquid lead tone, which is not too dry and that never gets brash or harsh. It is one of those rare amps that can do everything really well - from cleans and edge of breakup tones, to a really nice crunch and then the legendary drive, lead and high gain tones that are simply phenomenal.

It stands apart from other amps of similar gain levels with its ability to retain a very wide dynamic range while forking out proper high gain tones. All other high gainers we've tried (including the Mark V) are way more compressed and almost artificial sounding, while the MKIICP remains articulate, open, cuts well and still is smooth.

The specimen captured here is the DRGX version - the most desirable variant that features the Graphic EQ, Simulclass power section, 4 power tubes and reverb. As we have now concluded a number of times already - there is a reason for amps being priced as high as these are and it has not only to do with the rarity, but the outstanding qualities of the gear itself.

The amp is captured through a 4x12 MES cab with V30 speakers and with its internal original EV12L speaker with an array of R121, SM57 and M160 mics.

The set includes 18 DI Tone Models that go from clean to high gain and features numerous EQ settings per gain level. 2 CAB IR's of the cabinets mentioned above are included in the set. Please refer to the list of all tone models in the product picture section.
