The Gibson GA-200 Rhythm King is one of the largest and most powerful amps Gibson produced during the Tweed era. Designed as a rival to Fender’s low- and high-powered Twin models, it stood apart from most of Gibson’s lineup, which leaned heavily toward smaller 6V6-based amps.
The GA-200 was Gibson’s big, professional-grade offering, built with clean headroom and strong rhythm work in mind — hence the name Rhythm King. It excels at clean and edge-of-breakup tones, while also delivering a stout, authoritative crunch.
Compared to Fender Tweed designs, its overdrive has a different character, sharing more tonal DNA with other classic Gibson amps. The top end is smoother and less forward, breakup is organic, and the transition into overdrive is creamy and controlled.
If you enjoyed the GA-19, this moves in a similar direction — but with a wider frequency response, a larger sonic footprint, significantly more punch, and added clarity. Exactly what you’d want from a rhythm amp — and exactly what it delivers.
The set features 24 full captures of the amp through its 2X12 Norelco speakers. The mics used were 2x Royer R121, a Beyerdynamic M160 and a Neumann U87. Please refer to the full list of included captures in the product photo section.
