This little Ampeg amp blows our minds in so many ways!

It delivers everything: from beautiful bubbly and punchy cleans that can even jazz and funk, edge of breakup tones that allow great control of the dynamics, raw and unapologetic crunch tones and when it is time for pedals, put your seat belt on - you're in for a ride.

The drive, lead and fuzz tones with a pedal in front on this amp are second to none. It achieves those smooth, nicely rounded overdrive tones that sound cleaner than they are as the amp holds it together so well, always maintaining punch and definiton at the same time.

If you are into fuzz tones - this amp might very likely be your final destination for fuzz duties, it has instantly become our Nr. 1 fuzz platform.

The amp has a very distinctive character. It is thick, full and warm, but without the mids getting in the way. It has a pronounced low mid punch, surprisingly firm bass for such a small amp and an exceptionally chewy character with growing gain levels, especially once wandering into the overdrive territory with a pedal in front of it.

I haven't come across any interviews where Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys mentions using this amp specifically for Lonely Boy or any other track on the El Camino sessions, but there is a picture floating on thegearpage forum of their studio setup around that time in 2011 and among other amps and along with the Ampeg Gemini II (which Dan does mention using for that song), there is also this exact SB-12 Model, mic'd up and ready to go.

Dan has mentioned the Gemini II in numerous interviews as one of the amps for El Camino, but i have never come as close to those tones (Lonely Boy in particular) as with the unsung hero of these sessions - the SB-12. So if you too are chasing the Black Keys El Camino era vibe - this is the ticket.

Playing this amp is like eating a thick, juicy piece of steak.  Bon appétit!

The set features 26 full captures of the amp (cab baked into the capture). The amp was recorded through its 1X12 Ampeg Portaflex Cab with the 12" CTS speaker. The mics used were 2x Royer R121, a Beyerdynamic M160 and a Neumann U87. Please refer to the full list of included captures in the product photo section.
